The quiet half of City West, south of the Ku'damm. Good value, safe, leafy, and a district almost no visitor has a reason to walk around.

Facts: 90 min walk to Museum Island; 55 min to the airport; price €€; best for families, quiet, longer stays, budget; lines U1, U3, U7, U9, S41, S42.

Wilmersdorf is the villa and apartment quarter below Kurfürstendamm: Fehrbelliner Platz, Bundesplatz, Volkspark Wilmersdorf and the Preußenpark where the Thai food market sets up at weekends. It is the part of west Berlin that stayed residential, and it is the single easiest place in the city to get a large, quiet, well-kept room for a middling price.

What you are buying is calm and space. The streets are wide and green, KaDeWe and the Ku'damm shopping are a ten-minute walk north, and the U7 and U9 put you in Kreuzberg or at Zoo station without changing. Families and long stays do well here, and so does anyone who has stayed in Mitte once and found it exhausting.

The honest problem is that nothing happens. Berlin's museums, its nightlife and everything anybody flies here for are 30 to 45 minutes away to the east, and the district's own evening amounts to a handful of restaurants and a very good Thai park in summer. Wikivoyage's own transport section is blunt about it: the stops here are not much use to a visitor. If your trip is sightseeing, this is a long U-Bahn ride twice a day.

What works:
- Large, quiet rooms for noticeably less than Charlottenburg or Mitte
- Green, flat and safe at any hour - the easiest district with children
- U3, U7 and U9 run direct to Zoo, Kreuzberg and Mitte without changing
- The Thai food market in Preußenpark every summer weekend

What does not:
- Nothing a visitor came to Berlin for is inside the district
- 30 to 45 minutes on the U-Bahn to Mitte, Kreuzberg or Friedrichshain
- Very quiet evenings: a few restaurants and then nothing
- Far too far to walk to Museum Island - about 90 minutes

## Other districts in Berlin

- [Mitte](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/mitte): Recommended. Everything on the first page of your itinerary is inside one 25-minute walk. You pay the highest rates in Berlin for it, and half the district is asleep by 21:00.
- [Prenzlauer Berg](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/prenzlauer-berg): Recommended. Whole streets of unbombed 19th-century apartment blocks, a playground on every corner and no club scene at all. That last part is why people book it.
- [Friedrichshain](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/friedrichshain): Mixed. The cheapest central beds in Berlin and the loudest nights. Book it if the trip is Berghain, the RAW-Gelaende and the East Side Gallery. Do not book it to sleep.
- [Kreuzberg](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/kreuzberg): Mixed. Berlin's best eating and its best-known drug park are four blocks apart. Kreuzberg 61 is calm and residential; Kreuzberg 36 around Kottbusser Tor is neither.
- [Neukölln](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/neukoelln): Mixed. The northern strip above Hermannplatz has the cheapest rooms and the newest bars in Berlin. The rest of the district has nothing for a visitor at all.
- [Charlottenburg](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/charlottenburg): Mixed. West Berlin's old centre has the most hotel rooms, the widest streets and the quietest nights. It is also twenty-five minutes from the Berlin you came to see.
- [Schöneberg](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/schoeneberg): Recommended. Quiet 19th-century streets, Europe's oldest gay quarter and rates below Mitte's. You trade a twenty-minute U-Bahn ride for a night's sleep.
- [Moabit](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/moabit): Mixed. The budget chains behind Hauptbahnhof are five minutes from the platform and thirty-five from anything you want to look at. Good transport, no reason to walk out.
- [Tiergarten](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/tiergarten): Mixed. Berlin's biggest park, the Philharmonie and the embassies, with Potsdamer Platz on its eastern edge. Superb to look at and nearly empty of ordinary streets.
- [Gesundbrunnen](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-berlin/gesundbrunnen): Mixed. Wedding's eastern half: cheap beds, a major rail interchange and the Berlin Wall Memorial. Also the area Wikivoyage names for robbery risk.
