District IX is the Great Market Hall, Ráday utca and half the District V price. Stay inside the Grand Boulevard; the district runs a long way south of it.

Facts: 20 min walk to Deák Ferenc tér; 40 min to the airport; price €€; best for budget, food, families, first-timers, longer stays; lines M3, M4, 2, 4, 6.
Safety: Mixed after dark. Inner Ferencváros around Ráday utca is fine at any hour. Wikivoyage groups the outer streets south of the Grand Boulevard with District VIII as places locals avoid walking alone at night.

Inner Ferencváros is the best-value central address in Budapest. Kálvin tér is one metro stop from Deák Ferenc tér and fifteen minutes on foot, the Great Market Hall is at the end of the street, and Ráday utca is a pedestrian run of restaurants and terraces that fills with locals rather than stag parties. Rooms cost roughly half of District V.

It is also the flattest, easiest district for anyone with a suitcase or a pram: M3 and M4 both stop here, trams 4 and 6 cover the boulevard, tram 2 runs the riverbank past the Parliament, and Liberty Bridge puts the Gellért baths eight minutes away on foot.

The district is long. South of the Grand Boulevard it turns into Középső- and Külső-Ferencváros: renovated in parts, industrial in others, and Wikivoyage groups its outer streets with District VIII as somewhere locals avoid walking alone at night. Nothing there is worth the twenty-five extra minutes, so keep your address between Kálvin tér and Boráros tér.

What works:
- Roughly half the District V rate for a 15-minute walk to the centre
- The Great Market Hall and Ráday utca are both inside the district
- M3, M4, trams 4, 6 and the riverside tram 2 all stop here
- Liberty Bridge puts the Gellért baths eight minutes away on foot
- Bakáts tér and the university quarter keep it lively without being loud

What does not:
- Only the strip inside the Grand Boulevard is worth booking
- Outer Ferencváros is industrial and Wikivoyage flags it after dark
- Ráday utca is a restaurant street, so the flats above it hear the terraces
- Üllői út is a six-lane road cutting the district in half
- Fewer sights than Districts V to VII - you walk to everything

## Other districts in Budapest

- [Belváros-Lipótváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/belvaros-lipotvaros): Recommended. District V is the centre in every sense: Parliament, the Basilica, the river and all four metro lines. You pay Vienna prices for it and you eat badly if you stay on Váci utca.
- [Terézváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/terezvaros): Recommended. District VI runs from the Opera up Andrássy út to Heroes' Square and the Széchenyi baths. Central prices minus a third, and the M1 does the walking.
- [Erzsébetváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/erzsebetvaros): Mixed. District VII is the old Jewish Quarter and the ruin bar district at the same address. Two square kilometres, the best food in Budapest, and no sleep on a Saturday.
- [Józsefváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/jozsefvaros): Mixed. District VIII is two districts. The Palace Quarter is the prettiest quiet corner of central Pest; the streets behind Népszínház utca are the ones locals walk around at night.
- [Várkerület](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/varkerulet): Mixed. District I is Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion and the best view in Hungary. It is also the most expensive district, the steepest, and empty of restaurants after 21:00.
- [Újbuda](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/ujbuda): Mixed. District XI is 33 km² of Buda. The Gellért baths and Bartók Béla út are worth booking; the rest of it is suburbs, and a hotel listed as District XI can be 10 km out.
- [Angyalföld](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/angyalfold): Recommended. The southern end of District XIII, Újlipótváros, is where people who live in Budapest would stay: 1930s streets, real restaurants, the Parliament 15 minutes away. The north is not.
