District VI runs from the Opera up Andrássy út to Heroes' Square and the Széchenyi baths. Central prices minus a third, and the M1 does the walking.

Facts: 14 min walk to Deák Ferenc tér; 45 min to the airport; price €€€; best for first-timers, couples, sights, food; lines M1, M3, 4, 6.

Terézváros is a wedge of Pest built along one street. Andrássy út was laid out to imitate the Champs-Élysées, and under it runs the M1, the oldest metro line in continental Europe, which drops you at the Opera, at Oktogon, at Heroes' Square and at the Széchenyi baths without ever changing.

That is the case for staying here. You are 10 to 15 minutes on foot from District V, you have the Opera, the ruin bars of District VII one street south, and the baths at the far end of your own avenue. Rooms cost roughly a third less than the same room across the Small Boulevard.

What you give up is the river - there is no Danube view in District VI - and quiet, if you book badly. The lower end near Király utca shares its nightlife with District VII, Oktogon is a permanent traffic junction, and the underpass at Nyugati tér is the one spot in the district Wikivoyage tells you not to look lost in.

What works:
- M1 runs the length of Andrássy út from the centre to the Széchenyi baths
- 10 to 15 minutes on foot to Deák Ferenc tér, all of it flat
- Rooms roughly a third cheaper than District V for the same distance
- Restaurants and wine bars priced for locals in the streets off Andrássy
- Nyugati station gives you the airport train and every domestic line

What does not:
- The Király utca end is as loud at weekends as District VII, because it is District VII
- Oktogon and Teréz körút are busy roads and the flats above them hear it
- No river frontage at all, so no Danube view at any price
- The Nyugati tér underpass is unpleasant late at night
- Andrássy út addresses are grand outside and often unrenovated inside

## Other districts in Budapest

- [Belváros-Lipótváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/belvaros-lipotvaros): Recommended. District V is the centre in every sense: Parliament, the Basilica, the river and all four metro lines. You pay Vienna prices for it and you eat badly if you stay on Váci utca.
- [Erzsébetváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/erzsebetvaros): Mixed. District VII is the old Jewish Quarter and the ruin bar district at the same address. Two square kilometres, the best food in Budapest, and no sleep on a Saturday.
- [Józsefváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/jozsefvaros): Mixed. District VIII is two districts. The Palace Quarter is the prettiest quiet corner of central Pest; the streets behind Népszínház utca are the ones locals walk around at night.
- [Ferencváros](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/ferencvaros): Recommended. District IX is the Great Market Hall, Ráday utca and half the District V price. Stay inside the Grand Boulevard; the district runs a long way south of it.
- [Várkerület](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/varkerulet): Mixed. District I is Buda Castle, Fisherman's Bastion and the best view in Hungary. It is also the most expensive district, the steepest, and empty of restaurants after 21:00.
- [Újbuda](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/ujbuda): Mixed. District XI is 33 km² of Buda. The Gellért baths and Bartók Béla út are worth booking; the rest of it is suburbs, and a hotel listed as District XI can be 10 km out.
- [Angyalföld](https://stayzones.com/where-to-stay-in-budapest/angyalfold): Recommended. The southern end of District XIII, Újlipótváros, is where people who live in Budapest would stay: 1930s streets, real restaurants, the Parliament 15 minutes away. The north is not.
