Staying in Les Corts
There is nothing wrong with Les Corts. That is the problem. It is a prosperous, orderly business district built around the Diagonal, full of chain hotels that exist for conference delegates and are priced for expense accounts rather than for you.
The maths is simple. You are 30 to 40 minutes from the Gothic Quarter door to door, the streets empty out after office hours, and there is no reason to be on any of them in the evening. Over four nights that is roughly four hours of your trip spent underground, in exchange for a room that is no better than an equivalent one in Eixample.
The one case where it makes sense: you are here for a match at Camp Nou, or for a conference at one of the Diagonal venues, and you want to walk to it. Otherwise book Eixample and keep the hours.
What works
- Genuinely safe and quiet, with reliable four-star chain hotels
- Walking distance to Camp Nou and the Diagonal conference venues
What does not
- 30-40 minutes to the Gothic Quarter, each way, every day
- Streets empty out completely after office hours
- Priced for expense accounts, not for holidays
- No reason to be here in the evening, you will always be travelling
These areas are mostly residential but there are some good attractions for those who want to explore the districts outside of Barcelona's centre.
